Consultation

What does a Myotherapy
consultation involve?

Assessment

Before your first appointment, a patient intake form will be sent to you via email. You will then be able to complete that form online.

Alternatively, you are welcome to fill in a paper form on the day of your consultation.

The initial Myotherapy consultation will then begin with an assessment.

This may include examining your muscles, looking at your posture, assessing how well your joints move, nerve testing, and if certain movements may cause you pain.

During this initial consultation, your therapist will collect information from you regarding:

  • your general health, and
  • your presenting condition.

This will help us find the cause of your pain or mobility issues.

Some reasons you may need to see us

Here are some reasons why you may need to see a Myotherapist:

  • chronic muscle tightness from sporting, recreational or occupational activities,
  • have suffered an injury,
  • recent surgery,
  • postural or genetic conditions.

All of which may cause pain and tightness resulting in loss of mobility or restricted movement.

Treatment

Following this assessment, your Myotherapist will be able to determine the best treatment plan for you.

This treatment will be tailored to the specific cause of the problem and displayed symptoms.

The treatment may include any of the following:

  • soft tissue manipulation,
  • deep tissue massage,
  • myofascial release,
  • trigger point therapy,
  • dry needling,
  • cupping,
  • corrective exercise,
  • rehabilitative programs.

We will endeavor to identify and correct the perpetuating factors causing your pain, with a rehabilitative or maintenance program designed specifically for you to prevent reoccurrence.

Relieve your pain and reclaim your mobility.

Consultation length

We recommend an initial consultation/treatment of 45 minutes or longer, depending on the areas requiring treatment.

Your therapist may then advise the appropriate subsequent appointment length, or you will be able to choose either a 30 min, 45 min, 60 min, 75 min or 90 min session.

Supporting advice offered

Our Myotherapists will also focus on giving you additional information that will assist your understanding of your condition, and educate you of the possible factors causing your symptoms.

We may also prescribe stretches and rehabilitative exercises to prevent re-occurrence.
