What is Remedial Massage?

Remedial massage is a hands-on massage modality that incorporates many different massage techniques to treat and prevent pain and injury.

Specific techniques used include deep tissue release, trigger point therapy, myofascial release and joint mobilisation.

Remedial massage targets musculoskeletal imbalances, tightness and chronic or acute pain.

During treatment, we will identify and treat any muscles, tendons, ligaments or joints in the body that may be inflamed, tense, tight or immobile.

Remedial massage is often used to treat soft tissue injuries and tightness, but can also be an effective treatment for nerve compression, arthritis, delayed onset muscles soreness (DOMS) and neck and back pain.

What is the difference between Myotherapy and Remedial Massage?

Remedial Massage and Myotherapy can both be effective treatments for managing musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.

A Remedial Massage therapist will generally treat the symptoms of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction while a Myotherapist will treat both the immediate symptoms and the underlying cause which may be behavioural, postural, a muscular imbalance or structural.

Remedial Massage therapists primarily focus on soft tissue manipulation.

Myotherapists have a broader range of skills and may also incorporate other modalities such as Dry Needling, cupping, and TENS therapy into their treatments.

Remedial massage therapists typically complete a diploma-level qualification, while Myotherapists require a higher level of education, either an Advanced Diploma or a Bachelor in Myotherapy.
